  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Provides structure and light texture.
  • 3/4 cup milk Helps bind the ingredients.
  • 1 tablespoon sugar Balances the savory flavor.
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder Essential for lifting the fritters.
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder Adds aromatic flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Enhances overall flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper Adds a slight kick.
  • Vegetable oil, for frying Creates a crispy exterior.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Whisk until well combined.
  • Gradually add in the milk while whisking continuously until the mixture is smooth.
  • Fold in the finely chopped onions, ensuring they are evenly coated with the batter.

Frying

  • In a large skillet, pour in about 1/4 inch of vegetable oil and heat over medium-high heat.
  • Drop a spoonful of batter into the pan to test; if it sizzles, the oil is ready.
  • Carefully scoop small amounts of batter into the hot oil, flattening them slightly with a spoon.
  • Fry for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until golden brown, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan.

Serving

  • Once golden and crispy, transfer the fritters to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  • Serve warm with dips like sour cream, apple sauce, or your favorite sauce.

Notes

Don't overmix the batter to avoid tough fritters. Control oil temperature for even cooking. Keep finished fritters warm in a low oven if making in batches.
