Ingredients

For the Marinate

  • 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced for tenderness
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce to enhance umami flavor
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch for marinating and thickening
  • 1 tsp sesame oil for nutty fragrance
  • 1 tsp garlic powder for depth

For the Stir-Fry

  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil for stir-frying
  • 2 cups snow peas, trimmed for crunch
  • 1.5 cups mushrooms, sliced enhancing earthiness
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced for aromatic boldness
  • 1 inch ginger, grated bringing warmth
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes optional, for a hint of heat

For the Sauce

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce for seasoning depth
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce for enriching sauce complexity
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce for sweetness
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar for a tangy touch
  • 1 tbsp honey or brown sugar for balance of sweetness
  • 1 tsp cornstarch to thicken sauce

For Garnish

  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds for garnish
  • 2 tbsp green onions, chopped for color

Instructions

Marinate the Beef

  • In a large bowl, combine the soy sauce, cornstarch, sesame oil, and garlic powder to create a flavorful marinade. Add thinly sliced beef and toss to coat. Cover the bowl and let marinate for at least 15 minutes.

Make the Sauce

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, honey, and cornstarch. Set this aside.

Stir-Fry the Ingredients

  • Heat vegetable oil in a large pan or wok over medium-high heat. Add marinated beef and cook for 2-3 minutes until browned and just cooked through. Remove beef and set aside. In the same pan, add sliced mushrooms and cook until softened (about 3 minutes). Add minced garlic, grated ginger, and red pepper flakes; sauté for 30 seconds.
  • Add the trimmed snow peas to the pan and cook for another 2 minutes until just tender-crisp.

Combine & Finish

  • Return the beef to the pan and pour in the prepared sauce. Stir well to coat and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens.

Serve & Enjoy

  • Dish up Asian Beef with Mushrooms and Snow Peas hot from the pan. Serve over steamed jasmine rice or noodles.

Notes

For deeper flavor, marinate the beef for up to an hour. Consider adding a splash of fresh lime juice before serving. Customize vegetables as desired.
