Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup warm milk This creamy base works magic in the dough, providing richness.
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour A staple that will give the naan its soft, chewy texture.
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil Enhances the naan's moisture and flavor.
  • 2 teaspoons sugar To activate the yeast and give a slight sweetness.
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast For that beautiful rise and airy structure.
  • 3/4 cup plain Greek yogurt A tangy addition that adds depth to the flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Essential for balancing all the flavors.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder Ensures a light and fluffy consistency.
  • 1/4 cup warm water Helps in activating the yeast.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced The heart of the garlic naan, adding a robust flavor.

Topping

  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted Brushed on top for a sumptuous finish.
  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh parsley (or cilantro) A bright touch for color and freshness.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast in a bowl. Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes until bubbly and frothy.
  • Add warm milk, Greek yogurt, vegetable oil, and minced garlic to the yeast mixture. Stir in flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix until a dough forms.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 3 to 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough into a lightly oiled bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
  • Once risen, punch down the dough and divide into 10 equal balls. Roll each into an oval shape about 1/4 inch thick.

Cooking

  • Heat a greased skillet over medium-high heat. Cook each naan for about 2 to 3 minutes on one side until bubbly, then flip and cook until golden brown.

Finishing Touch

  • Mix melted butter with remaining minced garlic and chopped herbs. Brush generously over warm naan.

Notes

Use fresh ingredients for best flavor. Ensure ingredients are at room temperature for better texture. Cook in batches if necessary. Experiment with flavors by adding spices directly into the dough. Consider using a pizza stone for a traditional method.
