Ingredients

For the chicken skewers

  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breast or thighs Tender pieces that absorb flavors beautifully.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil Rich and healthy fat that enhances moisture.
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce Adds a savory umami kick.
  • 1 tablespoon honey Sweetness that balances the salty and spicy elements.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder For a lovely aromatic depth.
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika Provides a subtle smokiness that elevates the dish.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Essential for enhancing overall flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper A classic seasoning that adds warmth.
  • Wooden skewers (soaked in water for 30 minutes) For grilling without burning.

For the Bang Bang Sauce

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise A creamy base for the sauce.
  • 2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce Adds sweetness and a hint of heat.
  • 1 tablespoon Sriracha (adjust to taste) For those who love a spicy kick.
  • 1 tablespoon honey More sweetness, perfect for balancing flavors.
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice A touch of acidity to brighten the sauce.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, whisk together olive oil, soy sauce, honey, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  • Add the chicken pieces, tossing to coat them evenly. Marinate in the fridge for at least 30 minutes (or up to 4 hours for maximum flavor).

Making the Sauce

  • In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, Sriracha, honey, and lime juice until smooth. Set aside for serving.

Assembling the Skewers

  • After marinating, thread the chicken onto the soaked skewers. Leave a little space between pieces to ensure even cooking.

Cooking the Skewers

  • Grill: Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Cook for 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature reaches 165°F or 75°C).
  • Oven: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Place skewers on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway to achieve an even cook.
  • Air Fryer: Set air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Cook for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway for optimal crispiness.

Serving

  • Drizzle Bang Bang sauce over the skewers or serve it as a dipping sauce on the side. For a bit of flair, garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

For extra flavor, try adding a splash of lime juice to the marinade or a few drops of sesame oil. Feel free to toss in veggies—bell peppers or onions are fantastic additions to the skewers.
