Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Use this as the base for your flaky rolls, ensuring a tender texture.
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder This will give the rolls the lift they need to rise beautifully.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt A pinch of salt enhances the overall flavor of the dough.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter Chilled and cubed, this creates that rich, buttery texture.
  • 3/4 cup milk This adds moisture and binds the dough together.

Filling Ingredients

  • 4 ounces cream cheese Softened to ensure easy spreading, it gives the rolls their luscious filling.
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh chives Adds freshness and a mild onion flavor to balance the creaminess of the cheese.
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder Because garlic makes everything better.
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper Adds a hint of warmth and depth.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to blend the cold butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Gradually stir in the milk, mixing until a soft dough forms. Don’t overwork it.

Filling and Assembly

  • In another bowl, mix the cream cheese, chopped chives, garlic powder, and black pepper until well blended.
  • On a floured surface, roll the dough into a rectangle, aiming for about ¼ inch thickness.
  • Evenly distribute the cream cheese mixture over the rolled dough.
  • Start from the long side of the rectangle and tightly roll the dough up, making a log shape.
  • Using a sharp knife, cut the rolled dough into 1-inch sections to create your individual rolls.

Baking

  • Arrange the rolls on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until they turn a beautiful golden brown.
  • Serve warm and enjoy fresh from the oven.
