Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat until smooth. Gradually incorporate the boiling water until well combined.

Baking

  • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting

  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and creamy peanut butter together until creamy.
  • Gradually add the powdered sugar while mixing on low speed. Add the heavy cream and vanilla extract, beating until fluffy.
  • Once the layers are completely cool, frost the top of one layer with peanut butter frosting and place the second layer on top.
