Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans by greasing and flouring them.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Pour in buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix on medium speed until combined.
  • Gradually stir in hot water until batter is smooth.
  • Fold in M&M’s Peanut Butter.
  • Evenly divide batter between prepared cake pans.

Baking

  • Bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Cooling

  • Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Frosting

  • In a large mixing bowl, beat softened butter and peanut butter until smooth.
  • Gradually add powdered sugar and heavy cream, mixing in vanilla extract until combined.

Assembly

  • Spread frosting between layers and on top and sides of the cake.
  • Decorate with extra M&M’s Peanut Butter.
