Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare three 9-inch round cake pans by greasing and flouring them.
  • In a large mixing bowl, sift together all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry mixture and mix until smooth.
  • Carefully stir in the boiling water and then gently fold in the chocolate chips.
  • Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes.
  • Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Ganache Preparation

  • In a microwave-safe bowl, combine semi-sweet chocolate chips and heavy cream. Microwave in 30-second intervals until smooth.

Assembly

  • Once cooled, place the first cake layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of ganache on top. Repeat with remaining layers.
  • Cover the top and sides of the cake with the remaining ganache.
  • Decorate with chocolate shavings, fresh berries, and edible flowers.

Notes

Always sift dry ingredients separately and use room-temperature ingredients for better batter consistency. For variations, consider adding espresso powder, peppermint extract, or infusing ganache with fruit flavors.
